What are dentures?

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and the gum tissue around them. They are custom-made from impressions of your mouth, so the shape, size and color suit your face and your smile.

Benefits of dentures

  • Eat and speak with more ease. Replacing missing teeth makes chewing and clear speech easier.
  • A fuller, more natural smile. Dentures support your lips and cheeks.
  • A shorter path than implants. Dentures often need less surgery and a lower upfront cost than implants.
  • Adjustable. They can be relined, repaired or replaced as your mouth changes.

Are dentures right for you?

Dentures may be a good option if you have lost many teeth, if your remaining teeth are badly damaged or loose from gum disease, or if you wear an old denture that no longer fits. At your visit, we examine your teeth, gums and jawbone and explain your choices, including dentures vs. implants vs. bridges.

How we make your dentures

  1. Consultation and exam. We review your health history, examine your mouth and take X-rays.
  2. Preparation. If teeth need to be removed, we plan the extractions and healing. See tooth extractions.
  3. Impressions and bite records. We capture the shape of your mouth and how your jaws meet.
  4. Try-in. You preview the look and fit before the final dentures are made.
  5. Final fitting. We place your dentures and adjust the fit.
  6. Follow-up. We schedule adjustments to relieve sore spots as you adapt.

Getting used to new dentures

Expect a short adjustment period. Dentures can feel bulky at first, and it is normal to produce more saliva and to need practice speaking and eating. Start with soft foods, cut food into small pieces and chew on both sides. Call us if you feel a sore spot rather than waiting. A small adjustment usually solves it. Denture repair, relines and same-day help

A cracked denture, a lost tooth or a loose fit should not keep you from eating or smiling. We offer same-day denture solutions when possible, along with relines to restore the fit as your gums change over time. If it is urgent, see our dental emergency page or call (747) 339-7016.

Caring for your dentures

  • Brush your dentures daily with a soft brush and a non-abrasive cleaner.
  • Rinse them after eating and clean over a towel or sink of water in case you drop them.
  • Remove them at night unless your dentist tells you otherwise, and keep them in water or a denture solution.
  • Brush your gums, tongue and any remaining teeth.
  • Keep your checkups so we can check the fit and the health of your mouth.

Denture cost and payment

The cost depends on the type of denture, the materials and the number of teeth being replaced. We explain your fees before treatment, we help you check your insurance benefits, and we offer CareCredit financing. Compare your options in our dentures comparison.
