Tips for Taking Care of Your Toothbrush

When it comes to good oral health, there is no better regimen to adhere by than brushing your teeth twice a day. Regularly brushing your teeth is the best way to prevent bacteria from building up and to prevent stains from accumulating. You can have a dazzling smile and zero cavities by just taking a little time out of the day to focus on cleaning your teeth. However, since your toothbrush is such a valuable tool, you need to take proper care of it. Chances are you store your toothbrush in the bathroom, and you probably do not need us telling you that the bathroom is a haven for all kinds of germs. If you do not take good care of your toothbrush, you will be limiting the positive effects it can have.

Our dentist in NoHo offers the following tips on caring for your toothbrush:

• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after using a toothbrush.

• Once you are done brushing, rinse the toothbrush with warm water and store it upright to air dry.

• Do not cover your toothbrush until it is completely dry. A moist environment can promote bacterial growth.

• Do not share a toothbrush with anyone.

• Replace your toothbrush once every three to four months or after you have been sick.

• After using the toilet, keep the lid down instead of up. Each flush releases a spray of bacteria into the air that could attach to your toothbrush.
